Batik Painting: ages 13+ (10-12 w/ adult)
With Annie Casey
Annie Casey will demonstrate the resist and dye technique characteristic of traditional Japanese batik, a form known for its stunning and often unpredictable textures and tone. You will then use what you learned to create your own set of vibrant, personalized flags. If you have attended a prior pennant flag workshop, you are welcome to expand your creativity to one or two larger canvases (with attention to detail & composition) to be hung or framed.
All materials will be provided including repurposed sheets for you to use as a canvas, or bring your recycled 100% cotton sheets or pillowcases. Consider using symbols that are important to you, or just let the creative colors flow... Either way, you will leave with a unique and striking final product!
Consider wearing old (not your favorite) clothes to this class, as dyes do stain.

Annie Casey first began using batik to create large, dramatic portraits to emphasize the exquisite beauty of the human experience. She typically invites the subjects of her pieces to participate in the transformative process, seeking to bridge the divide between artist and observer. Annie also works for the Alzheimer's Association, teaches yoga, and enjoys spare moments in her garden. Before living in Denver, she taught horseback riding outside of Rocky Mountain National Park.
